Don Chapel

Continued...

Don and Donna would both sign with Epic in August of 1967. Don recorded "Here We Go Again", "Hurtin Time", "Summer Winds" and "Flowers and Candy" with Billy Sherrill as the producer. Two other songs Don did for Epic that were never released, "In a Phone Booth On My Knees" and "A Cook In The kitchen."

By mid 1968, Tammy Wynette's career was in full bloom. She would choose to leave Don and move on to George Jones. This, however, was by no means the end of Don Chapel's career. The publicity that Tammy received often left Don in the shadows, but when one views his accomplishments, along with his families list of achievements, the light could only continue to shine in this family.

When asked about Tammy's rise to stardom and early beginnings, Don would say, "The words to a song my sister Martha Carson wrote says it all. 'you can't stand up all by yourself, you can't stand up alone. It takes the touch of a mighty hand. You can't stand up alone." No one in the music business ever gets ahead without the help of many other people and that includes Tammy.

Don and daughter Donna would continue on as a duet and tour for several years together along with son, Mike Chapel, as the drummer in their band "The Chapperones." As a Musicor recording artist in 1966, Don would record " Look Out Floor," "Losing All Track of Me", "A Different Wedding Band,"
and "You've Got a Fight On Your Hands."

Don moved to Stop Records owned by Pete Drake and Tommy Hill in 1971 to record a duet with his daughter, Donna, entitled "Take a Little Goodwill Home" and "We've Got Love."

Don enjoyed success with MetroCountry Records for a while with a song written by his sister, Jean, "Will I Ever Stop Loving You" which hit the top 50 nationally. Chapel has also recorded on Delta Records.

Today, Don still lives in Nashville and continues to write his music like "Misty Morning Rain" recorded by Faron Young and Ray Price. His music continues to be a way of expressing his heart.
